Plant-Based Flushable Spunlace Fabric | Hydroentangled Dispersible Wipes Substrate
A binder-free, plant-based spunlace nonwoven engineered for flushable wipe applications. This material delivers strong in-hand and wet-use performance while dispersing efficiently under real flushing conditions. Designed for converters producing flushable wet wipes, moist tissue, and bathroom hygiene products.
What Is Flushable Spunlace Fabrics?
Flushable spunlace fabric is a hydroentangled nonwoven made from plant-based fibers such as wood pulp, lyocell, and customizable blends. Unlike standard spunlace, this material is specifically engineered to maintain integrity during use but disintegrate in water after flushing.
It is not a finished wipe product, but a base substrate used by converters to manufacture flushable wipes and hygiene tissues.
Core Features
- Binder-free hydroentanglement - Fiber bonding comes from water-jet entangling, not glue-like binder resins. That's what lets the sheet stay strong while wet, then let go once it hits real flush turbulence.
- Tunable basis weight, 40–80 gsm - Lighter weights break up faster; heavier weights hold more strength for wet-wipe formats. You pick the point on that curve.
- Three emboss options - Cloud (star), flower, and plain patterns, each changing fluid distribution and hand-feel without changing the dispersion mechanics.
- Dry or wet-format ready - Works as a dry-dispensed sheet or as the base web for lotion/solution-impregnated wet wipes.
- Low-lint, clean-converting web - Uniform formation and stable tensile profile so it runs predictably on slitting, folding, and packaging lines.

Test Report Data (55 gsm reference sample)
Lab results below are batch-average values (COA) for the 55 gsm reference weight, tested against GB24218 and related methods. Values shift proportionally as basis weight is adjusted within the 40–80 gsm range - heavier sheets test higher on tensile strength and slower on dispersion time; lighter sheets test the opposite.

Application Scenarios
- Wet wipe converters (adult/family flushable lines) A converter running lotion-impregnated flushable wipes typically starts trials at 55–60 gsm with a cloud emboss - the higher basis weight holds saturation and wet strength through the fold-and-seal process, while the emboss channels distribute the solution evenly across the sheet before it's packed into canisters or flowpacks.
- Baby and sensitive-skin wipe lines For softer-touch products, a lower basis weight in the 40–48 gsm range with a flower emboss is common - the goal is a lighter hand-feel and faster in-bowl breakup, since these products are typically single-sheet-per-use rather than multi-sheet.
- Private-label bathroom wipes Brands building a house-label flushable line often request a plain-pattern sheet at the 55 gsm reference point as a starting formulation, then adjust up or down after their own flush-and-clog testing on the target packaging and dispenser format.
- Line trial example A typical pilot sequence looks like: confirm target gsm and emboss → run slitting and folding trials to check tensile and tear behavior at speed → impregnate with the customer's formula and re-check wet strength → run the slosh-box dispersion test on the finished, formulated sheet (not just the base fabric) to confirm dispersibility holds up after solution add-on.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the difference between this and a standard (non-flushable) spunlace wipe fabric?
A: The fiber system and hydroentanglement energy are tuned specifically for water-triggered breakup. Standard spunlace fabrics are built to stay intact; this one is built to stay intact in the pack and let go in water.
Q: Does adding lotion or solution change the dispersibility result?
A: It can. The slosh-box result above reflects the base fabric. Formula add-on (lotion viscosity, add-on level, surfactant type) affects real-world breakup, which is why we recommend re-testing dispersibility on the final impregnated sheet during pilot trials.
Q: What's the difference between the cloud, flower, and plain emboss options?
A: They change fluid channeling and surface texture, not the dispersion chemistry. Cloud emboss adds surface bulk and grip for wet-wipe formats; flower emboss trends softer for sensitive-skin use; plain is typically chosen for cost-sensitive or private-label programs where emboss branding isn't a priority.
Q: Is this fabric septic-safe?
A: The dispersibility test data above reflects standard toilet/sewer flush conditions (slosh-box method). Septic system compatibility depends on tank size, existing load, and local system design, so we recommend converters state flush guidance (one sheet at a time, with adequate water) on finished packaging rather than making septic-specific claims.
Q: Can basis weight, emboss, and packaging all be customized together?
A: Yes - gsm, emboss pattern, roll width/diameter, and packaging format (flowpack, canister, sachet, refill roll, or bulk industrial roll) are independently adjustable, and we run pilot trials to validate the combination before scale-up.
