Successfully Selected for Shandong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List

On December 19, the Shandong Provincial Government announced the sixth batch of representative projects for provincial intangible cultural heritage. The "Yixian Embroidered Ma Mian Skirt Craftsmanship," strongly supported and recommended by the Shandong Garment Design Association, has successfully made the list. The application was submitted by the Shandong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology and the Weifang Municipal Government.
With the revival of Hanfu culture and the growing interest in traditional crafts, the Yixian Embroidered Ma Mian Skirt has seen significant social dissemination and public acceptance. Rooted in Shandong, it is reaching nationwide and even global audiences, leading to a sustained increase in market demand. The craftsmanship has been rediscovered, protected, and passed down to more young artisans, who are actively incorporating it into both traditional garment making and modern fashion design. Overall, the status of this craft is positively thriving.
Currently, production of the Yixian Embroidered Ma Mian Skirt is concentrated in areas such as Cao County in Heze, Jinan, Rizhao, and Linyi, with significant industry development occurring in Cao County and Jinan. Some rural regions also continue to preserve traditional techniques.
Zhou Jin's Collection
Zhou Jin is a key practitioner and promoter of this heritage project. For decades, she has dedicated herself to the transmission and promotion of Yixian Embroidered Ma Mian Skirts. In addition to serving as the president of the Shandong Garment Design Association, she is the director of the Cao County Hanfu Design Research Institute and the chairperson of Shandong Sunbird Apparel. Zhou specializes in both the traditional craftsmanship and modern design of Hanfu and Ma Mian Skirts and regularly conducts public lectures to educate others.
